How Tom Bateman and Daisy Ridley Went From Costars to Husband and Wife

Batemen and Ridley's love story began while filming their mystery movie "Murder on the Orient Express." According to Deadline, production for the film began in London in November 2016. At the time, Ridley had recently launched to fame by making her debut as Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in 2015, while Bateman had just wrapped up playing Giuliano de' Medici in the final season of "Da Vinci's Demons."

At the London premiere of "Murder on the Orient Express," one of the film's producers, Judy Hofflund, hinted that Bateman and Ridley struck a romance while filming the movie. When asked if any of the cast members got especially close on set, Hofflund told People (via Just Jared), "Something kinda happened with Tom and Daisy right? That's public news. I should keep my mouth shut. Oh well."

That same night, Bateman was questioned about his dating life, but the actor refused to give any details. "I'm absolutely not going anywhere near that! But nice try," he said. When told of Hofflund's comment, he responded, "They like to create a buzz, they've got to otherwise [no one] will come and see the movie!

Just weeks after the dating rumors surfaced, Bateman and Ridley were spotted hanging out together in London in December 2017. Ridley was in the city for the premiere of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." According to photos obtained by the Daily Mail, the couple celebrated the film's premiere at a hotel bar.

In February 2019, Bateman and Ridley's relationship appeared to be getting more serious when the Daily Mail reported the couple had moved in together. Apparently, the stars had begun renting an apartment in London's Primrose Hill.

While in New York City for an appearance on "Good Morning America" in June 2019, Ridley was seen wearing a diamond ring on that finger. Of course, fans speculated that she and Bateman had taken their relationship to the next level by getting engaged.

In November 2019, Marie Claire asked Ridley about the engagement rumors. The "Ophelia" star neither confirmed nor denied that she and Bateman were headed down the aisle. "It's a really nice ring that I wear," she said about the highly-speculated piece of jewelry. "Oh my God. It's the first time I've publicly been asked this one."

Ridley then told the publication she wasn't going to elaborate on something so personal. "The thing is, I've never talked about my personal life. So I won't talk about it now. I'm so aware of how much information about my life is out there, so if there's one thing I don't want to talk about . . ." she said before changing the subject.

In September 2022, Bateman and Ridley attended a special screening of the Marilyn Monroe biopic "Blonde," their first official appearance as a couple. Later that month, they attended the BFI Luminous Fundraising Gala.

After dodging engagement rumors for years, Ridley finally confirmed that she and Bateman had tied the knot while speaking to Rolling Stone in January 2023. "Yes! I got married," she said when asked about her ring, but she didn't share any more details.

In a January interview with AP promoting her movie "Sometimes I Think About Dying," Ridley also announced she and her husband will work together on another film together. "I am starting a movie on Monday that I had the idea of and that my husband has written and that I'm starring in, of course," she said jokingly, adding, "It's very exciting." The film called "Magpie," is about a woman who is pushed to her limits when her daughter is cast in a movie, and her husband — who is the daughter's chaperone on set — begins falling in love with the actress who's playing their daughter's mother.

Apart from their new movie, the couple have been enjoying married life by vacationing in Ireland in April, per People, and appearing at an event hosted by British jewelry brand 886 by The Royal Mint a month later.
